A lot of things pop up, but they are all so haphazard. And your brain can’t process all the random information.
That’s why, to make your life easier, we’ll show you the entire process of painting your aluminium-coated windows. And don’t worry, the entire process is very easy.
Even a beginner can do it.
How To Paint Aluminium Windows
Before we start with the steps, you better know what tools you’ll need. Additionally, you’ll need to make some preparations as well.
Things You’ll Need
Tools you’ll need –
- Soap
- Water
- Clean cloth
- Stirrer
- Painter’s tape
- Toothbrush
- Paintbrush
- Paint
- Undercoat or ESP
Preparation Stage
You must make the necessary preparations before jumping into the process. This will make your windows look much better once they are painted over.
Clean The Window
Simply mix some soap in water to create a soapy mixture, then use it to clean the windows. This will scrape off all the dirt that would otherwise meddle with the painting process. And for the hard-to-reach corners, use a toothbrush. The small bristles will be able to reach those places that your hands can’t.
Safeguard The Area
We all know how messy the painting process can get, right? Now, you probably don’t want your walls and furniture to get drenched in paint. So, to prevent a chaotic scene, all you need to do is take out your painter’s tape and stick it along the edges. Make sure you get all the corners. Be extra sure to apply the tape all over the glass, because that is one part where you won’t want to paint.
Otherwise, you won’t be able to enjoy your scenery while you sip your morning coffee. And guess what? The painter’s tape not only stops a mess from being made, it also gives an even finish. Once you remove the painter’s tape, it’ll look like a professional did the job.

Painting Stage
Once you’re done with the preparations, you can kick-start the painting process. The best part is there are only four (4) steps. And they’re all super easy.
Make sure that you have undercoated the aluminium with a suitable primer, or use Easy Surface Prep (ESP) to help the paint adhere.
Step 1- Stir The Paint
The first thing you have to do is stir the paint. You see, when you open the paint can, you’ll notice that the paint is concentrated on the lower part, while the top part is left to be drenched in water rather than the paint solution. So, to make the paint as even as possible, take a stirrer. If you don’t have one, take any stick made of steel and give the paint a mix. However, make sure that the stick is clean. Otherwise, your paint can have unwanted lumps and bumps. You certainly don’t want that, do you?
Step 2- Apply The Paint
It’s time for the big showdown. Yes, it’s time to finally apply the paint. So grab your paintbrush and dip it into the can of paint. Now make sure your brush is not completely covered with paint. Otherwise, your window will look like it was bombarded with paint. So, simply scrape off the excess paint by giving the brush a nice rub against the can of the paint. And once that’s done, paint the frame of the window. This is very easy. All you have to do is move your brush up and down against the window frame. The paint will smear across the window on its own.
Step 3- Wait For The Paint To Dry
Thirdly, you have to wait for the paint to dry completely. Now time for the main question. How long do you have to wait for the paint to dry? Well, it varies from paint to paint, but it generally takes about six (6) to eight (8) hours if you used an enamel paint.
Step 4- Reapply The Paint
Once the paint dries, you have to apply a second coat. This will give a more refined finish and your windows will look great. To apply the second coat, do the exact same things you did the first time. And you’ll have amazing painted windows.
That’s all you have to do to paint your aluminium windows. If you have more questions or suggestions about the process, call us direct at Earles Paints on 07 4121 5202 for all the information you need, or visit us at Earle Paint Place Maryborough.
