How To Get Paint Off Tiles

by

Maybe you were singing a song while repainting your surface. Suddenly your hand slipped, and the paintbrush touched the tile you didn’t want it to touch. Disaster alert!

Now before you start crying or getting all frustrated, take a deep breath. This is common, and we can help you. The paint can be easily removed.

If it is water-based paint try some methylated spirits on a cloth to wipe it off. Not only that, but we’ll also show you two (2) methods you can choose from. Simply pick the method that suits you. Make sure you choose carefully. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a scratched tile.

Method For Hard Glazed Tiles

Check your tiles first. If you have glazed tiles, follow the steps below, and you’ll have paint-free tiles in no time.

Things You’ll Need

  • Gloves
  • Mask
  • Chemical paint remover
  • Warm water
  • A piece of cloth

Step 1- Take Precaution

The first thing to do is take necessary precautions. This is because the paint remover can be toxic. So, to protect yourself, make sure you wear a mask and gloves before starting the process. On top of that, make sure you open up the doors and windows for proper ventilation.

Step 2- Clean The Surface

The next thing you have to do is clean the surface properly. Otherwise, the dirt can interfere with the paint removal process. So, grab a clean piece of cloth and rub the entire surface to make it squeaky clean.

Step 3- Apply The Paint Remover

Once the surface has been cleaned, get on with the main task. For this step, you have to take out your store-bought paint remover and smear it across the surface.

To do this, grab some spare cloth and dip it in the paint remover. Now, make sure you get it only partially wet. Otherwise, the remover will start dripping and create a mess. Once you have it on the cloth, clean the tiles thoroughly. Here’s a little secret – the trick is to swipe the cloth in one direction. Try it yourself to get the best results.

Step 4- Wipe The Tiles With Warm Water

The last thing you have to do is wipe the tiles with warm water. This will get rid of the paint remover as well as clean your tiles and make them shine again.

Method For Soft Glazed Tiles

If you have a soft glazed tile, then it’s better to do things naturally. In this method, you’ll make your own paint remover.

Things You’ll Need

  • Warm water
  • Vinegar
  • A piece of cloth

Step 1- Make The Mixture

The first thing on your to-do list is to make your own mixture. For this, all you need is vinegar and warm water. These two items will do the magic. And all you have to do is mix them in equal amounts. Then stir till they are thoroughly mixed. After your mixing session, you’ll have your very own home-made paint remover. Isn’t that awesome?

Step 2- Apply It On A Piece Of Cloth

Now once you have your very own paint remover grab a piece of cloth, then dip it into the mixture. But be careful. You don’t want to put too much into it. Otherwise, the mixture will become too concentrated and can damage the tiles. You certainly don’t want that now, do you? Once you’re done dipping, head over to the next step.

Step 3- Scrub The Cloth On The Tiles

For this step, you have to scrub the dampened cloth over the tiles. Yep, get that piece of cloth soaked, and start rubbing it on the tiles. At the same time, make sure you swipe the cloth in one direction. You see, if you move it in random directions, the paint will spread across and create a bigger mess than before.

Now it’s important to keep in mind that the mixture you made at home isn’t that strong. It’s vinegar after all. Hence, it’ll take a few extra swipes to get it all off. Don’t worry. That hard work will pay off. So, keep on scrubbing.

Step 4- Wash The Tiles With Warm Water

Lastly, when the paint is fully removed, clean your tiles with warm water. This will not only remove your mixture but also clean your tiles. Hence it’s a win-win. So, get your rag wet and start scrubbing the area. And once you’re done, you’ll have a sparkly tile surface again.

That’s all there is to removing paint from tiles. Sounds easy, right? Now, since you know how to get paint off tiles, why don’t you try it yourself? Once you’re done, don’t forget to share your experience with us. We’ll love to get your  feedback.

Till then, stay safe and have a wonderful day. Hooroo!
